A competitive league for grades 5th and 6th to hone their skills in field hockey. There are 7 weeks of games, which includes 8 regular season games and playoffs. Games are played on Sundays from about 9am to 6pm. There will be 2 Sundays that have double headers. There is an additional weekend for the Play for a Cause Tournament, which is held Columbus Day weekend. This tournament takes place on both Saturday and Sunday.
Teams will be created prior to the season starting. Our goal is to evenly split the teams. Teams will be announced shortly before the games begin. Players in 6th grade, who are also playing for the Middle School, will have decreased practice time during the school year to account for the playing in the MS.
Practices will start the last week of July and will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings. They will run from approximately 5:30-8:30pm; long practice hours allow for proper stretching, agility, and field play on a weekly basis. Once the school year begins, practice will be cut down to 6-7:30ish, depending on the daylight.
Players will learn a lot in this league as they play with 11 players on the field, just like HS and College. The 5th grade year is a developmental year as the players get used to playing with each other and learning how to play the game of field hockey on a full-size field. Players will learn every aspect of the game and also how to play as a team.
